A Russian military airport in Cologne?

I had actually only taken this picture to try out my new 28 mm Mamiya/PhaseOne lens in the wild. But as is so often the case here, these “by the way/actually” pictures fascinate me in retrospect, as they have that little touch of free work that I get to do far too rarely. And so it is that many of my articles here begin with the words ” by the way ” and ” actually”, which is much less apologetic than it sounds. So not at all. It would be even nicer if you had to apologize for your pictures. Although, strictly speaking, you would have to do this for every picture published in the BILD newspaper, but that’s a different topic, if not a different blog. So now this photo, apparently taken at an abandoned military airport in the eastern zone. But it is actually in the middle of Cologne, in the Rheinauhafen. So it has taken this city years and millions to transform a really nice urban harbor area into an absurd eastern zone nirvana: You could call it the Rheinauflughafen. And that makes it typically Cologne, because of course no plane will ever land here.
